It replaced another farmhouse on the same site, which had probably dated back into the Middle Ages. The noble Kirby Castle at one time possessed an additional tower which was demolished in the 18th century. The surviving bricks were used in the repair of the farmhouse, thus further adding to its character and historical charm. A long farming tradition ended when the estate was sold in 1918.
